I don’t know of any for free. I’m currently running bookmarks.scoffb.in on my Synology, which is far from free but the hosting isn’t costing me anything. PikaPods can do it for $1/mo. And if you already have a host that can run Docker, you can set it up there.
1 replyI actually don’t have examples of weirdness from Maciej, I’m just going by what people have reported. It’s not my primary reason for switching, lack of development is what worries me. Some parts of it are breaking (archiving) and it’s not keeping up with things like the Twitter API or adding new services like Mastodon.
Thanks Brett!
I doubt that my host runs Docker, but I will check.
And PikaPods sounds like it is very affordable.
Without having looked into it very deeply, I know that the 2 VPSes that they provide for free have 1vCPU; not sure about the RAM, so it’d depend on how demanding linkding is. I’m able to run web apps, nginx, and an instance of postgres on similarly spec’d VPS on digital ocean without issue, though.
Just a thought! It’s free, so I would encourage anyone interested in thinking about using a VPS from Oracle or anyone else to try it out to see if it’ll serve your needs.
Sorry I meant to say Archiving is now natively supported in Linkding!
But I get your point on local copies. Coincidentally I also have a similar setup but entirely on Shortcuts. My point of entry for all my links is Goodlinks. It does exactly what you want in terms of full text archiving (plus has a great reading focused UI). I use a shortcuts automation to check for new links / tag updates on my Goodlinks and send it to my linkding (for wayback style archival).
So funnily enough my problem was exactly diametrically opposite to yours in that I already had full text search with Goodlinks but I didn’t have a true wayback style archival system and I ended up setting linkdng for that
Anyway, I highly recommend you check out Goodlinks though. It has top class UI + robust shortcut integrations
1 replyGoodlinks looks really nice. I’ve already invested in Readwise though, and gone to great lengths to integrate it with DEVONthink, so I’ll stick with that for now. But would definitely give Goodlinks a try and switch if it were superior.
